FOR THE CONSUMER

In addition to the aforementioned benefits,  Lavacqua is a great for in-between shampooing, and a quick spray will revive hair beautifully. Those with curly or coarse hair will see a decrease in frizz, and more defined and bouncier curls. Those with thin/fine hair will experience more volume as Lavacqua removes hard water impurities that weigh hair down.  After continued use, most find themselves using less styling products which also weigh down the hair, but also dry out the hair.  Less product and impurities equal healthier, shinier hair.

Here is why

The 4 minerals naturally present in Lavacqua:

Iron: helps improve hair texture and reduces dullness by increasing the flow of oxygen and nutrients to the hair roots and scalp. Its main functions include the metabolization of proteins and the production of hemoglobin, enzymes, and red blood cells (RBCs). A lower RBC count can impair the transfer of oxygen to the various tissues and organs within the body, including the hair.

Copper: helps in the utilization and absorption of iron within the human body. Found, virtually in every one of our cells, this trace element is also essential for the production of melanin, the dark pigment that imparts color to skin, hair and eyes.

Zinc: is often viewed as an essential mineral for healthy hair. Many experts believe zinc deficiency leads to deterioration of the protein structure that comprises the hair follicle. The weakening of this follicle can in turn cause shedding or loss. It is thought that this ingredient plays an integral role in DNA and RNA production. This is required for the normal division of hair follicle cells which leads to healthier hair growth.

Selenium: is renowned for its ability to boost hair growth. It is known to destroy a fungus known as Melassezia found on the scalp. Selenium helps in proper functioning of hormones and increased hair growth. Zinc and selenium are advised by doctors for hair loss.

Then enhanced and complemented by these botanical elements:

Thymus Vulgaris (Thyme):  has been known for its hair benefits for centuries. Thyme essential oil encourages hair growth as well as combats various hair problems. It improves delivery of nutrients to the hair follicles which is vital for hair growth, and it improves blood circulation to the scalp.  In the presence of hair thinning or hair loss, thyme essential oil is a great remedy. Usage of thyme oil for hair either by itself or with other ingredients can make your hair thick and lustrous as well as combat hair loss. Due to its antibacterial properties, thyme is effective in the treatment of dandruff. This herb is often used as an ingredient in shampoos, conditioners and scalp treatments.

Tussilago Farfara (Coltsfoot): has a high content of cysteine (an amino acid), sulphur and silica, which are all beneficial for the skin and hair. It is known to help strengthen the hair shaft. The high level of silica is also soothing to the scalp, clears build-up, and adds elasticity and sheen to the hair shaft.

Achillea Millefolium (Yarrow): is anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and astringent making it an ideal herbal remedy for treating scalp conditions which may stunt hair growth.  Because it is high in natural saponins and fatty-acids, yarrow extract is perfect for making natural scalp and hair cleansers.  Alternately, yarrow oil may be mixed with a carrier oil and applied to scalp to help stimulate new hair growth.

Betula Alba (Birch) Bark: The antibacterial and anti-inflammatory actions of birch bark support its traditional uses in skin disorders such as eczema and to prevent hair loss. The essential oil of birch is astringent and is mainly employed for its curative effects in skin affections, especially eczema. The essential oil obtained from the bark of this tree has been used in hair care and skin care products to drive away dandruff, hair fall, eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis.

Equisetum Arvense (Horsetail):  Contains silica, a mineral which helps in strengthening bones, as well as nails and hair. Not only can this mineral make hair strong, but it can also improve its sheen and texture. Horsetail also contains selenium (one of the minerals naturally present in our volcanic water), a mineral that is essential for the proper growth of hair, as it helps the processing of iodine, which regulates hair growth as well. A deficiency in selenium can lead to slow hair growth.

Urtica Dioica (Nettle): has been used for centuries to improve the appearance of hair and as a remedy for oily hair. Rich in iron, a rinse made with nettles can help combat hair loss and promote hair growth. Drinking nettle tea may also help battle hair loss, as iron can help with circulation to the scalp, in turn fueling hair growth. Nettles will also help with an imbalance of sebum (the oil that your pores produce) which can make a difference in cases of dandruff or dry scalp.

Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary): People of the Mediterranean countries, such as France, Spain and Italy, have been using rosemary for centuries for hair care; they often use rosemary in a hair rinse as a conditioner. Rosemary contains ursolic acid which helps to increase blood circulation in the scalp.  This means that more oxygen and nutrients will be sent right to the hair follicles, thus promoting healthy hair growth. It is traditionally known to darken gray and also slow the appearance of grey hairs. Rosemary also revitalizes hair, removes product and calcium build up to leave your hair shiny and soft. This wonderful herb also offers strong antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antiseptic effects and therefore it’s a useful home remedy for treating dandruff, itchiness, and scalp irritation.

Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Leaf Water: The scalp’s health and wellbeing is contingent on maintaining its unique pH balance.  This balance can be affected easily by stress, weather conditions and harmful ingredients. Since peppermint is an astringent, it helps control the oil production by the scalp returning it to its natural pH levels.  This pH balancing effect helps reduce dryness and flakiness, which is usually the cause of itchiness and dandruff. Peppermint is also an antiseptic agent, which means it bolsters the scalp’s health by clearing out dead skin and bacteria. Peppermint’s pH balancing effects can help return the scalp to its normal level of oil, or sebum, production, thus relieving a range of ailments, like acne.  Also, a normal level of oil production creates the right conditions for hair growth. To strengthen your roots and encourage growth, it’s important to promote oxygenation, which happens through blood circulation.  Peppermint promotes circulation better than almost any natural ingredient which finally increases oxygen supply to the follicles, thus stimulating hair growth.

Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender): Lavender oil promotes thick, healthy hair. Many people lose their hair because of a medical condition called alopecia areata. Alopecia is an autoimmune disease that causes the body to reject its hair follicles as foreign objects. A Scottish study reported that more than 40% of alopecia patients in the study reported an increase in hair growth when they regularly rubbed lavender essential oil into their scalp. Lavender oil is a natural product that provides nutrients to the scalp and may help treat this disease.

Honey:  is a natural humectant that is full of the antioxidants and nutrients needed to feed hair follicles that house the live part of hair. It is also a fantastic conditioner that softens and smooths the hair.

  • Honey is an emollient which means it is a natural softener. This makes it a great hair conditioner that smoothens your hair.
  • It is a natural antioxidant, so it tends to make the scalp healthy and stimulate hair growth.
  • As honey is an emollient, it also improves the health of the hair follicles which are responsible for hair growth. Researchers say that proper use of honey in the treatment of hair can awaken sleeping hair follicles and boost hair growth.
  • We all know that honey is a humectant, and thus, tends to prevent the loss of moisture from your scalp. But honey also has high sugar content which helps to retain moisture. This as a result prevents hair fall and strengthens the hair follicles.
  • Honey also delivers antibacterial and antiseptic qualities. This prevents the scalp from infections or psoriasis, and tends to keep it clean and bacteria-free. This also regulates dandruff and itchiness.

Vinegar:  The many benefits of using vinegar in a hair rinse have been known for centuries and in some countries vinegar is still commonly used as a part of a healthy hair regimen. Specifically:

  • It balances the pH of both the hair and the sebum since its acidity level is similar to those at 4.5 to 5.5. When kept at this acidity level, the scalp is protected against fungal and bacterial growth, ensuring healthy hair and skin. Unfortunately, many shampoos and other hair products disrupt this natural pH which can affect the cuticles of the hair and the condition of the scalp.  Regularly rinsing with vinegar can help bring your scalp and hair to its ideal acidity, especially if you have oily hair.
  • The acetic acid in vinegar is a potent antimicrobial which can kill bacteria and fungus, common underlying causes of dandruff and hair loss, making it a fantastic natural remedy for these conditions.
  • Using a multitude of products on hair – like serums, gels, sprays, and masks – leads to product build-up. All this sticky residue can leave the hair looking flat, dull and lifeless. One of the easiest ways to get rid of this accumulation and restore life to your locks is by using vinegar.
  • Vinegar is also a fantastic natural detangler, often used as an alternative to conditioner. Its natural acidity helps to smoothen down the cuticle, encouraging knots and tangles to slip out and allowing a brush to glide through more easily. Frizzy hair is also caused by lifted cuticles on the hair. Smoothing down the cuticles with vinegar will result in an overall smooth, frizz-free mane. By using a vinegar rinse regularly, you’ll be naturally removing tangles from your hair, closing the cuticles, improving porosity and encouraging stronger strands, all of which lead to a reduction in split ends and breakage.
  • The cuticle’s position also affects the light reflecting properties of the strands. When the cuticle is down – as it is after a vinegar rinse, the hair is better able to reflect light, giving your ‘do a glossy, healthy appearance.
  • Normal hair allows necessary amounts of moisture to penetrate the outer cuticle, while porous hair absorbs liquid quickly, but loses it just as quickly. High porosity is the result of damage to the hair from chemical treatments and environmental exposure. This irreversible destruction creates gaps and holes in the surface of the hair shaft leaving the hair more prone to further damage. While we can’t change the porosity of hair, it can be managed it by using a vinegar rinse to flatten the cuticle and minimize gaps.
  • Lastly, vinegar stimulates better blood circulation to the hair follicles, something that is vital for encouraging hair growth and preventing hair loss. Furthermore, this blood carries essential nutrients to the hair follicle cells, strengthening the roots and promoting growth.
